Giant Squid Books

Written by Emily Harstone

UPDATED FEBRUARY 2018: They are now defunct.

Giant Squid Books is a small publisher that has been around for a little over a year now. They publish eBooks and paperbacks (print-on-demand). They have only published three books so far. They are interested in publishing young adult books. They do not have any genre restrictions.

Giant Squid run by a team of two editors. Both editors are relatively inexperienced. The one obvious red flag on the website is the fact that the first book they published is by one of their editors. However they make that fact known and do not try to hide it.

The website is easy to navigate and focuses on selling books, not recruiting authors. One of the authors that has been published by them has spoken highly of their copy writing and editing abilities and also by the attention given to her book.

The covers are well designed and the books are easy to buy on the website, which is not always true, even with more established publishers.

They try to respond to all queries within a month. If it has been longer than that, feel free to email them. All queries should include a query letter and the first three chapters of your book, or the first fifty short pages of your story. All submissions should be made via email.

The editors go into some of their genre and story telling preferences in the submission guidelines, which can give you a good idea of what they are interested in, and what they are not. Both are particularly interested in compelling characters.
